Turkey boots

If you watch any video today, make it this one.

This is my friend Jesse “Turkey Trotting” at the Thanksgiving Day Parade wearing self-styled Turkey Boots. By that I mean raw turkeys around each of his ankles. It is amazing.

9 to 5, for service and devotion

Today it is 74 degrees and absolutely gorgeous outside. I am inside, nowhere near a window, working and staring at a computer screen.

Here are things I’d rather be doing than working today:
-Hiking in Pt. Reyes
-Going to the beach in Pt. Reyes and swinging on the big rope swing on eucalyptus tree at the very end of the beach.
-Lazing around in a bikini at Crissy Field
-Hiking at Mt. Tam
-Walking around the Botanical Gardens or Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park
-Eating brunch in the back patio at Zazie
-Playing ping pong in the back at Finegan’s Wake and drinking
-Walking up to Tank Hill
-Playing basketball at the school up the street from my place
-Reading on my roof
-Drinking margaritas on my parents’ deck
-Having a picnic on Carmel Beach
-Making best pals with the animals at the zoo

I honestly believe if the work day was shortened to 5 hours a day, people would live longer and be happier and also be more productive in that 5 hours than the standard 8 hours. It’s so unnatural to be locked inside an office all day. THIS IS WHY I’M SO PALE.

Dude.

New Queens of the Stone Age video for “Sick Sick Sick.”

…DUDE.

I think my fantasy life at this point would be to live on a tropical island where I am the queen and QOTSA are my daily entertainment. They would play any song I asked them to, whenever I wanted, and just play all day and all night, always. I’d give them breaks and we’d drink rum and play pool (I also know how to play pool in this fantasy life).

I have, do, and will love anything Josh Homme ever does.

Side note: he is 1′5″ taller than I am. He could pull double-duty and be my security on the island!

Kinda hot in this rhino

A couple of weeks ago, I packed my wee bag and, after keeping it a secret for two whole weeks, flew to Vegas to surprise Lucas! I have never been able to do it before for various reasons and it was excruciating keeping it a secret from him. Ally, Lily and Harley helped me, and in the end, everybody on the tour knew about it except for my dude. I had considered popping out of an equipment case and scaring the shit out of him, but thought I might pass out or puke inside said equipment case from the excitement and heat, and that would NOT have been a fun box to open on his part.

In the end, Ally told Lucas over his radio that he’d broken a light onstage and he needed to come check it out. I was hiding behind a corner, and Lucas turned around the corner, looked at the light, then looked at me, then looked at the light, then back at me and I yelled “SURPRISE” and started crying because I was so excited to see his FACE! He was so surprised and so excited and it was one of the happiest things I’ve ever done!

The rest of the day I hung out with him while he worked, tried to skateboard in peep-toe wedges (almost died), tried to learn how to play the drums again from Bobby (failed miserably), ate in the Rockateria (the show was at the Hard Rock), discussed the visual similarities between Carlos and his dog, and just generally beamed in L’s direction for the entire day. He had some equipment problems but finished work with a fluorish in time for us to go to Nobu for dinner with Ally, Lily and Bob. Holy shit it was amazing. I don’t remember a single second of conversation, I was way too busy eating pounds and pounds of ridiculously good food.

Then it was time for the show. It was amazing. I had been scouring YouTube and the Interpol forum for videos and pictures every day to see what Lucas’ show looked like, and I was so excited to see a show for myself and be there to support him (by this I mean jumping up and down and going “OOOOOH!” frequently). It was incredible – it looked goddamn brilliant, and the band seems so revived and energetic after damn near 2 years. I got so excited and took a million photos, most of which came out blurry because of said excitement.

In any case, here is my view at a Lucas show:

interpol 4/29
interpol vegas
mas interpol
ze interpolooza
i n t e r p o l
interpol in hell

But this is my favorite view:

bing!

I look surprised even though I took the photo….? Also note Bobby in the back, drinking his 27th Coke of the day.

yay!

Slightly different than Nobu. He had to improvise with the post-show food utensils.

Neither of us had much luck at the slots, but they make for colorful photos.

The next day we returned home a couple of hours apart and spent the rest of the day with our bodies welded to the couch where we ate a half pound of cheese and watched “The Office” for hours. The only way to balance a trip to Vegas, I think.
